Conditions: Overcast 50s with some showers in the middle of the day. Overall good conditions except for bay 1 which was a wet mess from the rain before.
62 shooters showed up for a good day of some challenging stages. Thanks for the volunteers that help set this up and for Tommy Nyland for the creative stage planning. 3 stages had popper activated targets with a lot of movement and 2 were classifiers. CM 18-09, 'I Miss that Kind of Clarity', was a redo from last month because the barriers incorrectly place. CM 18-02, 'What Is With you People', was a good one as well. This AAR, ( After Action Report), is to go over what went well and what I needed to work on. I had already completed week 2 of Mike Seeklanders PCC mastery series and could see the improvement in my mindset in stage planning and visualizing prior to each stage.
Stage 1: A lot of movement on this stage. I had to do a reshoot of this stage due to a stage malfunction. I have the habit of double tapping steel poppers to make sure they drop and activate the targets which was the the presumed cause of the malfunction but was not.
Things I need to improve on:
1. Shooting swinging targets.
2. Shooting off hand and with the 45 degree optic especially at 25-30+ meter targets.
3. Shooting leaning on both left and right at 25-30+meter targets. Planting my primary leg better.
4. Improving my reaction time from seeing the target on the optic and pressing the trigger. There were moments I felt a slight hesitation from pulling the trigger sooner.
5. Shooting on the move.
Stage 2: Some changes to this plan compared to the diagram. The round plates were place on the left side on the berm. I did well on the plates except for 1 make up. This was a fun stage to start the match off with.
Things I need to improve on:
1. Shooting distance at smaller targets. Don't know why I had a hard to time getting my second shot on the 1/2 scale targets.
2. Shooting on the move. Need to time my shooting between each steps to have a stable platform.
3. Working on shooting poppers. Go through the array and not wait for them to drop. Do the make up shots after have gone through the line.
Stage 4: Classifiers are always a great test of shooting and manipulation skills. This stage was no exception.
1. Reloading faster. To reload going uprange.
2. Shooting walking backwards. This could have been another options in this stage.
Stage 5: This was a very fast stage. I loved the amount of movement and speed involved in this stage. Both poppers had to be activated in order for the target to be activated. This stage my double tapping caused the poppers to fall backwards instead of forward to activate the target. I had to do a reshoot of this stage as well.
Need to improve on:
1. Double taps on the poppers.
2. Deliberate movements and target transitions. Using my legs in target transitions.
Conclusion:
Lots of personal improvement but always striving to get better.
